About Michael DeGrenier
Freelance photographer with a heavy focus on Landscape and Wildlife photography based in East Wenatchee, Washington.
Originally from the Boston area, I left for Washington State in 1980 to pursue mountaineering and backcountry hiking. I quickly found myself overlooking stunning vistas and natural beauty I found difficult to describe to family and friends. In 1981, my parents bought me my first 35mm film camera, a Canon AE-1, which I still own. My passion for photography only grew exponentially from there.
My pragmatic nature and career as an engineer didn't easily translate to fine art. Finding myself in a rut until, at my wife Pams' urging, I attended art exhibits of the French Renaissance and the Impressionists. The relationships between these great art forms, centuries apart in the making, and photography has since inspired me to look for those attributes in my own work such as geometrical patterns, symmetry, leading lines, reflections and subject selection.
Pam and I have travelled most of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Scandinavia and Europe and still study the paintings of the masters for ideas and inspiration.
